It is due to the fact that other applications that request information on travel, booking flights, and all such in those margins seem to not be useful. This is not a definitive conclusion but a rather much odd one. Back then, Google had apps that ...

via GIPHY. Again, to be fair, Google have been signalling this coming for some time. Just ask the hospitality industry (Bed & Breakfasts forced to “suck hind teat” at Google) they’ve been having to pay to ensure that aggregators and re-sellers like booking.com don’t steal their business for ages now.So, to be clear on this – this is a signal from Google: “If you don’t pay for the space – we’ll let someone else pay… probably your competitors.” And this is already happening.

Right now I use Apple Maps for online navigation and Here maps for offline. Neither does a good job of search. And both suck to different extent with navigation. Navigation is so crucial to us these days it’s totally worth paying for. I have been using Apple Maps for a few years now and it has gotten a ton better than it used to be. If that continues it’ll be part of the Apple tax and I’d be glad to continue as an Apple customer. brendoelfrendo 3 months ago. Adding to the anecdata ...

Google recently updated their map tool, and 'Search nearby' is no longer present. The 300 posts to the Google Product Forums complaining about this omission indicates this is a feature Maps users sorely miss. My initial reaction was to disagree that google was a software company and that it's more of a "tech/search/social media" company. Microsoft is a software company, not google. But the longer I think about it, the more it becomes apparent that google is a software company. It just provides its software as a service/subscription for your data. refulgentis 19 days ago - That's from 2014, 6 ...

Again – why you’d pay Google to do this for you: to keep your traffic, your bookings and a cut of your profits? I’m a little lost on that one. 20. Promoted Map Pin “Show up prominently on Google Maps when a customer is looking at a map where your business is located.” Again, promoted pins and big brand logos on maps is not new.

This is such an odd way to book hotels for me. We always book based on location/price, usually looking at Google maps for suitable locations and reviews. We've had a few duds, usually chain hotels, but we've also stayed at some really nice hotels, especially in South East Asia, that also didn't cost much.

Since GeoGuessr uses the Street View API from Google Maps, as well as the map itself for the guessing window, it must pay Google for the use of both of these. Google also greatly increased these prices recently, and many sites that have used Google API have switched to other services. However, none of them are as extensive as Google Street View.

Cons: Underperforms every other aggregator and OTA; never found lowest rates on cheaper hotels and tied for lowest price on a few expensive properties; formerly robust set of filters are now over-simplified; only shows the top 125 results based on any given criteria; sometimes features a “deal” that costs more than other results it found (the cheaper rate is sometimes displayed in smaller print beside the featured "deal," but may only be visible after clicking on the "More Deals" tab)
