If they do, ask to have the fees removed. 2. Early check-in fee. Banas says that some hotels will charge you extra if you check in before a certain time. If you arrive early, ask whether there is an early check-in fee. If so, ask if the hotel will store your bags for free (most will) until you check in later.

Any hotel will ask a guest for deposit of the entire stay - usually 100 SGD per day of stay. You can chose: card preauthorization or cash deposit. This is a normal hotel practice across the globe. If your card was pre-authorised, but a hotel reimbursed you in cash upon check-out, this is unusual to me, but still fair.

Re: Question about hotel deposit/charges at checkin... To better clarify. If you booked direct, you were charged a first night room charge to hold the room. Your card will, upon check-in, have a "hold" of somewhere between $100-150 or so (it varies by property) placed on your card and released when you check out.

Most hotels place a hold on your credit card, according to Dale Blosser, a lodging consultant. The amount varies, but as a rule, it’s the cost of the room, including tax, plus a set charge of between $50 and $200 per day. “That basically establishes a line of credit for typical items that the guest might charge to the room, such as room ...

Check-in is also where hotels should notify you of additional fees not included in the room rate, such as resort fees (and don't get us started on that boondoggle) and charges for fitness center access, parking, pets, or towels. Again, most of these fees should be listed on the hotel’s website at the time of booking, but it’s always a good idea to review the extras at the start of your stay.
