Most hotels have a check out time of 11 a.m., and check ins cannot be done before this time. In the rare case that someone arrived at 10 a.m. and wished to check in, if rooms were available, there is a slight chance this would be allowed, but probably not because it would mess with Housekeeping's system.

But hotels don’t have set check-in times. When you see a hotel website says “check-in at 3pm,” that doesn’t mean that you have to be there at 3pm to check-in. It means check-in is not generally available until 3pm or later because they have to clean /turn over rooms after people checked out. If you want to check-in before that time, room

You have not specified the end of check-in time, which sometimes is not even provided! It depends on the particular hotel but something between 10 PM and midnight is common. Any time you expect that your arrival will occur during or after those hours, simply call the hotel and let them know that you are coming and an approximate time.

“Standard Time,” as the new service is called, can be selected during the booking process. Simply put in estimated check-in and checkout times, and for an additional 5% of the booked room rate you can arrive and depart as you wish instead of at the usual times of 3pm for check-in and 11am for checkout.

Late check-out is when when a hotel allows you to stay in your hotel room after the normal check-out hours and for no additional charge. Typically, a hotel will have a check-in time at around 3pm and check-out time at 12pm for its standard policy but will allow guests to stay longer in certain circumstances.

If you want to be comfortable book the room from the 15th and contact the hotel to tell that you are checking in late. People have reported that some hotels have given away their rooms when they have arrived only little bit after 6pm. If you book from the 16th there is no guarantee that you can get into the room before 2pm. Some people are fine without any sleep or sleeping in a chair in the hotel lobby, though.

Most hotels have limits, both for check-in and for no-show, and most are indicated on the booking confirmation. In our Hotel, for example, standard check-in is from 2pm-12midnight. That being noted, if you request a late check-in, there is no problem, as we, as many other hotels in Venice, have a 24-hour reception. We don't do no-shows in any case until at least 7am the morning following the expected arrival, and even then, if advised in advance, for a multiple-day stay, will keep the ...
